Two men and a young person charged after aggravated break-in at Broken Hill

Officers from Barrier Police District have charged two men and a young person following a break-in and robbery in a home at Broken Hill yesterday that's left the occupant with facial injuries.

Officers will allege a 77-year-old man was home alone in his Chapple Street premises when three males forced their way inside.

The trio found the occupant in the kitchen where they assaulted him and stole a sum of cash from his pocket.

They fled the home with a set of car keys and allegedly attempted to start the occupant's vehicle, however, due to an immobiliser they were unsuccessful. They fled the area on foot.

Police were called and commenced an investigation resulting in the arrest of a 19-year-old man about 6am (Sunday 8 March 2020), not far from the Chapple Street premises.

He was taken to Broken Hill Police Station where he was charged with aggravated break and enter commit serious indicatable offence - people there, aggravated robbery and take and drive conveyance without consent.

Later that day, about 4.15pm, a man aged 28 and a youth aged 17, were arrested at a home on Iodide Street, Broken Hill.

Both were taken to Broken Hill Police Station and charged with aggravated break and enter commit serious indictable offence – people there, and aggravated robbery.

All three were refused bail and will appear at Broken Hill Local Court today (Monday 9 March 2020)
