Two men charged after mail theft investigation, NSW

Police have charged two men and seized more than 300 stolen credit cards as part of an investigation into a large-scale mail theft and identity fraud syndicate in Sydney’s west, NSW Police say.

About 3.15am today (Saturday 25 August 2018), officers from Mt Druitt Police Area Command were patrolling Rooty Hill Road North, Rooty Hill, when they stopped a Holden Captiva.

Officers searched the car and seized several items, including more than 300 credit cards and personal identification documents believed to have been stolen, 500 letters, several letterbox keys, and clothing.

The driver, a 25-year-old man, and the passenger, a 24-year-old man, were arrested and taken to Riverstone Police Station.

The 25-year-old man was charged with deal with identity information to commit indictable offence (x11), dishonestly obtain property by deception (x11), and possess identity information to commit indictable offence.

He was refused bail to appear at Parramatta Bail Court today.

The 24-year-old man was charged with possess identity information to commit indictable offence.

He was granted conditional bail and is due to appear before Mt Druitt Local Court on Wednesday 19 September 2018.

Police will allege in court the men stole mail, credit cards and driver’s licences before using the credit cards to buy several items, including food, clothing, moisturiser and jewellery, across the Mt Druitt, Plumpton and Doonside areas.
