Two Men Charged over Greenacre Shooting

Criminal Groups Squad detectives have charged two men over their alleged role in a public place shooting in Sydney's south-west last year.

About 3pm on Wednesday 28 December 2022, officers attached to Bankstown Police Area Command were called to Welch Avenue, Greenacre, after reports several reports gun shots had been heard in the area.

On arrival, officers located damage consistent with shots being fired toward a vehicle, as well as empty bullet casings and damage to a fence.

A crime scene was established, before detectives attached to State Crime Command's Criminal Groups Squad commenced an investigation under Strike Force Terrol.

Following inquiries, strike force investigators arrested a 25-year-old man at Bankstown Police Station about 7.30pm on Wednesday (7 June 2023).

He was charged with fire firearm at dwelling house with reckless disregard for any person, assault with intent to rob while armed with a dangerous weapon, participate criminal group and contribute to criminal activity.

The man was refused bail and appeared at Bankstown Local Court on Thursday (8 June 2023), where he was formally refused bail to appear at Burwood Local Court on Wednesday 9 August 2023.

About 6am on Thursday, strike force detectives – with assistance from Raptor Squad – executed a search warrant at an address on Islington Crescent, Greenacre, where they seized clothing and a mobile phone.

Following further inquiries, about 11am yesterday (Friday 9 June 2023), strike force detectives stopped a vehicle on Stansfield Street, Greenacre, and arrested a 26-year-old man.

He was taken to Bankstown Police Station, where he was charged with fire firearm at dwelling-house with disregard for safety, assault with intent to rob while armed with dangerous weapon, participate criminal group contribute criminal activity and drive motor vehicle while licence suspended.

The man was refused bail to appear in Parramatta Bail Court today (Saturday 10 June 2023).

A short time later, strike force detectives – with assistance from the Public Order and Riot Squad – executed a search warrant at an address on Stansfield Street, Bankstown, where they seized clothing and a mobile phone.

All items seized will undergo further forensic examination.

Investigations under Strike Force Terrol are continuing.
