Two men will re-appear in court today charged by detectives following an investigation into an alleged large-scale drug supply syndicate.
In June 2018, the Criminal Groups Squad established Strike Force Yarrum to investigate a syndicate involved in the large-scale supply of methylamphetamine, cannabis and cocaine across the Sydney region.
During the investigation, detectives charged a member and two associates of the Comanchero outlaw motorcycle gang (OMCG) – aged 22, 27 and 28 – on Thursday 23 May 2019.
Strike force detectives charged two further men – aged 20 and 21 – on Tuesday 28 May 2019.
They all remain before the courts.
Following further inquiries, strike force investigators, with assistance from the Public Order and Riot Squad, stopped a vehicle on Beamish Street, Campsie, just after 7pm on Wednesday 25 September 2019.
During a search of the vehicle, with assistance from the Dog Unit, two bags of cocaine with a total weight of 280g was located in a hidden compartment in the centre console area.
The driver – a 24-year-old man – and his passenger – a 23-year-old man – were both arrested and taken to Campsie Police Station.
Shortly after the arrests, two search warrants were executed at homes at Belfield and Willoughby.
During the search at Belfield, a replica long-arm firearm, knuckle dusters, an electronic stun device, cannabis, steroids and a number of designer watches were seized.
The younger man was charged with supply prohibited drug (commercial quantity), and knowingly direct activities of criminal group.
He was refused bail and appeared at Burwood Local Court on Thursday 26 September 2019 where he was formally refused bail to re-appear at the same court on Wednesday 20 November 2019.
The older man was charged with supply prohibited drug (commercial quantity), and participate criminal group contribute criminal activity.
He was refused bail and appeared at Burwood Local Court on Thursday 26 September 2019 where he was granted strict conditional bail to re-appear at the same court on Wednesday 20 November 2019.
Investigations under Strike Force Yarrum are continuing.
