Two men rescued after boat capsizes near Port Kembla

Two men have been rescued after spending at least two hours in the water in the Illawarra region.

About 5.50pm yesterday (Wednesday 26 August 2020), emergency services were called to water off Purry Burry Point, Primbee, following reports a boat had capsized.

Police were told two men – aged 44 and 60 – had been fishing when their vessel overturned two hours earlier, throwing them into the water.

The men remained in the water until a member of the public contacted police.

Officers from Lake Illawarra Police District, assisted by the Marine Area Command and NSW Ambulance paramedics, attended and retrieved the men from the water.

They were both treated at the scene, before the older man was airlifted to Wollongong Hospital.

Their conditions are not reported to be life-threatening.
