Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives are investigating after two people died in a collision at Templestowe this morning.
Emergency services were called to reports of a multi-vehicle collision on Fitzsimons Lane about 9.25am.
It is understood a silver SUV was travelling northbound when it veered onto the wrong side of the road and collided head-on with a small hatchback.
Both occupants of the hatchback, who are yet to be formally identified, died at the scene.
The driver of the SUV, a 54-year-old Balwyn North woman, was taken to hospital with minor injuries under police guard.
A grey compact SUV was also struck following the initial collision.
Fortunately, the occupants of that car were uninjured.
The exact circumstances surrounding the collision are yet to be determined and investigations remain ongoing.
