- Hay Street in East Perth to become two-way from 2pm on Sunday, 31 August 2025
- Upgrades to improve traffic flow, public transport access, and pedestrian and cycling infrastructure
- Motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians urged to take note of new traffic conditions
From 2pm on Sunday 31 August 2025, traffic in Hay Street, East Perth, will travel in both directions as part of the City of Perth's ongoing commitment to a more connected, accessible city.
The changes apply to Hay Street between Victoria Avenue and Bennett Street, as well as Victoria Avenue
between Adelaide Terrace and Hay Street.
Commuters are urged to pay close attention to traffic signals, lane markings and signage and familiarise themselves with the new road layout.
This is the next step in the City's Two-Way Street Program which has seen the successful conversion of many streets across the city to flow in both directions including William Street, Beaufort Street and Barrack Street - a recommendation from global urban strategy and design firm Gehl.
Two-way streets offer people more choice in how they travel, improving accessibility for drivers, public transport users, cyclists, and pedestrians alike.
This is an important project for our growing City as it will shape a more connected East Perth.
The upgrade also includes improved access to parking bays, new pram ramps, enhanced lighting, and additional street trees to boost vibrancy and enhance safety.
