UBCO is now offering a specialized micro-credential for people in health-care leadership positions.
UBC Okanagan's Faculty of Management is introducing a new Micro-credential in Health Care Management and Leadership designed to empower leaders in an evolving health-care landscape.
"This program is designed to empower the next generation of health-care leaders," says Dr. Gady Jacoby, Dean of the Faculty of Management. "As the demands on our health systems continue to evolve, this program offers a transformative learning experience that is customized for health care to build capacity and lead with operational acumen."
Micro-credentials are short, focused programs that teach skills needed for specific jobs or industry needs. Offered mostly online, they are designed to be focused, competency-based and make it possible for people to quickly gain in-demand skills while remaining in the workplace.
This Faculty of Management program delivers four in-person modules at the Okanagan campus complemented by online components, creating a flexible learning experience that accommodates working professionals while fostering valuable peer connections.
Learners will develop expertise across four essential domains: project management frameworks, economic evaluation methods, data visualization techniques and decision-making models-all specifically tailored to health-care settings, explains Dr. Jennifer Davis, developer of the program.
"The micro-credential brings together a dynamic group of guest instructors from across the health-care system who will co-teach alongside our faculty," says Dr. Davis. "Every component of the credential is grounded in current practice, shaped by real-world experience and immediately relevant to the challenges leaders face today."
The program is open to current and emerging leaders across Canada's health-care sector, offering an opportunity to strengthen leadership capacity at every level of the system. Upon completion, learners will receive a digital badge that recognizes their achievement and can be shared with others.
The micro-credential reflects UBC Okanagan's commitment to developing educational pathways that respond directly to workforce needs while maintaining academic excellence, says Dr. Jacoby. "The UBC Faculty of Management is deeply committed to providing important, accessible education for professionals," he adds. UBCO is hosting an online information session on Wednesday, June 18 starting at noon. This will be a good opportunity to speak with the instructors and ask any questions related to the program.
