UK Statement on Sweden, delivered at Sweden's Universal Periodic Review at the Human Rights Council in Geneva.
Thank you, Mr Vice President.
The United Kingdom welcomes Sweden's long-standing commitment to promoting and protecting human rights. The creation of the Swedish Institute for Human Rights is an important and positive development. We commend Sweden's steadfast contribution to human rights internationally.
We recommend that Sweden:
- Ensures the institutional independence and provision of sustainable resourcing for the Swedish Institute for Human Rights, so that it delivers on its mandate to promote and protect human rights in Sweden.
Works with The Truth Commission for the Sami People to ensure its forthcoming proposals to redress and promote reconciliation are considered in good faith and fairly implemented.
- Continues to combat gender-based violence and oppression, including through implementation of the government action plan.
The UK thanks the delegation for their participation in this review meeting.
Thank you.
