Under Secretary Helberg Visits Philippines, Singapore

Department of State

Under Secretary of State for Economic Affairs Jacob Helberg will travel from May 17-21 to the Philippines and Singapore. He will engage with government officials, private sector representatives, and other ASEAN member states to advance efforts to build a secure, resilient, innovation-driven technology ecosystem with these two Pax Silica signatories.

Under Secretary Helberg's visit to the Republic of the Philippines will build on momentum from last month's Pax Silica Declaration signing ceremony. He will advance the initiative's efforts on the ground and visit the site for discussions regarding the planned Economic Security Zone in the Philippines, which was announced during the Declaration signing. The zone demonstrates the real-world possibilities presented by the Pax Silica initiative and is intended to be a first-of-its-kind industrial hub designed to surge production of inputs vital to global supply chains and to provide a significant contribution to advancing the vision of the Luzon Economic Corridor.

In the Republic of Singapore, the Under Secretary will convene representatives of ASEAN member states and private sector representatives for the U.S.-ASEAN AI Ministerial Roundtable to discuss the transformative role of AI in the ASEAN region and identify opportunities for AI collaboration, including through the U.S. AI Exports Program.
