UNDP and partners strengthen resilience of local communities by introducing mentorship programme

Ashgabat, 27 June 2022: UNDP in Turkmenistan conducted a series of online and in-person trainings within the framework of the Turkmenistan Country Component of the Global Project on "Strengthening Resilience to Violent Extremism in Asia" (STRIVE Asia). A joint EU-UN partnership" aimed at providing counselling and mentorship support to vulnerable youth to strengthen the resilience of local communities to violent extremism and radicalization. The seminars have been for the mentor teams from Ashgabat, Dashoguz, Mary, Tejen, Turkmenabat and Turkmenbashy cities.

From 26 May till 22 June 2022 more than 40 participants representing Youth Organization, Women Union, local Employment Departments of the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection of Population of Turkmenistan, local police, municipalities, including volunteers, participated in the in-person trainings held in 6 project sites. It is expected that the organized trainings will help participants develop mentoring skills and increase knowledge of best practices in strengthening resilience of vulnerable youth. All mentor teams also took part in an online seminar on emotional intelligence and its role in mentoring young people, which was held on 10 June 2022.
