Unhappy birthday

An Oakleigh man will be served a notice to surrender his electric vehicle after being caught 85km over the speed limit on his birthday in Tawong yesterday.

The Tesla was detected driving at an alleged speed of 185km/h in a 100km/h speed zone, while police were conducting mobile speed detection duties east-bound on Murray River Road about 2pm.

The vehicle also had two unroadworthy tyres.

Rather than enjoying a trip to the snow, the 32-year-old spent his birthday being interviewed for speed and vehicle defect-related offences and is expected to be charged on summons.
