Unique Adventure Tourism Facility Coming to Fredericton

News release

December 20, 2018– Fredericton, NB – Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency

Supporting important economic sectors in Atlantic Canada like tourism generates new opportunities, creates good paying jobs and helps to strengthen and diversify our communities. Thanks to support from the Government of Canada, Vertical Ascent will establish a year-round indoor adventure park in Fredericton that will draw visitors to the region and create 20 to 30 new jobs.

Matt DeCourcey, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship and Member of Parliament for Fredericton, on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA), along with Vertical Ascent officials made the announcement today.

The indoor adventure park, the only facility of its type east of Montreal, will include interactive climbing walls, aerial obstacles, zip lines, ninja warrior courses and virtual reality games. Some of the activities will reach 36 feet (11 metres) in height. The Government of Canada is providing a repayable contribution of $885,588 through ACOA's Business Development Program for the project.

This investment builds on commitments made by the Government of Canada and the four Atlantic Provinces to drive economic growth in the region through the Atlantic Growth Strategy by helping the region's tourism industry attract more visitors and create new jobs across the region. This bold approach is in line with Canada's Tourism Vision, which seeks to make Canada a top-ten global tourism destination by 2025.

"The Government of Canada is making strategic investments that build on competitive regional advantages. Through ACOA, our government is proud to support projects like this one for Vertical Ascent that promote diversification, build vitality in communities and enhance the regional economy."

- The Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for ACOA

"Tourism is critically important to New Brunswick, and to the Atlantic Canadian economy. In 2017, tourism represented $4.5 billion in non-resident spending in Atlantic Canada. That's why I am pleased that the Government of Canada, through ACOA, is supporting Vertical Ascent to establish an indoor adventure park. This project will create new, well-paying middle class jobs in our community, and will grow the economy in our region."

- Matt DeCourcey, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship and Member of Parliament for Fredericton

"Fredericton is a vibrant and growing community led by significant investment in tourism, technology, craft breweries and the arts. Vertical Ascent will contribute to this growth by offering year-round indoor adventure activities at heights not seen before in Eastern Canada. Our bold move to construct such a world-class facility in the heart of Fredericton will provide complimentary services to neighbouring industries and will aid in the attraction of new developments. Our project wouldn't be possible without support from the Government of Canada, through ACOA, and the NB Small Business Investor Tax Credit Program. We look forward to serving our community, creating new jobs, and contributing to Atlantic Canada's economic growth.''

- Trevor Pardy, CEO – Vertical Ascent
