Universities welcome focus on tackling skills shortages, participation

Universities Australia welcomes the focus on skills and participation in today's ALP tertiary education policy announcement.

The announcement includes proposed additional funding to provide 20,000 more university places, as well as support for TAFE.

Universities Australia Chair Professor John Dewar said:

"Universities play a central role in national prosperity and can power the post-COVID economic recovery by equipping graduates with the skills they need to drive that recovery."

"A strong and vibrant tertiary sector - university and vocational education - is fundamental to Australia's recovery."
