University Launches New Institute Of Education

The University of Liverpool has launched a new Institute of Education aiming to develop future and current educators and facilitate positive educational change.

A supportive and inclusive academic community, the Institute will serve as a focal point for transformative learning and teaching guided by those actively engaged in research into education. Courses include an MA in Education with its first intake now in place, with a PhD in Education also planned. These are overseen by an academic team drawn from across the University and beyond.

Research activity includes a wide range of topics with a global reach, such as:

  • The use of technology in learning and teaching
  • The training of medical professionals
  • Entrepreneurship and education
  • Micro credentials
  • Inclusion
  • The effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on higher education

The Institute seeks to build strong interdisciplinary partnerships to facilitate positive educational change locally, nationally, and globally whilst supporting meaningful and forward-thinking debate about education.

Professor Alison Fell, Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Head of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences said: "We are delighted to have launched the new University of Liverpool Institute of Education under Dr Anthony Edwards' leadership as Director. The Institute is building on strong foundations, but equally has the potential to increase its activity and national and global impact in the years ahead.

"Digital and other transformations in primary, secondary and higher education settings mean that education is an exciting and increasingly important research area, and the new MA is an excellent opportunity for education professionals looking for career development opportunities as well as undergraduate students interested in future careers in the education sector."
