Roza Otunbayeva, Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Head of the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA); Joyce Msuya, Assistant Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Deputy Emergency Relief Coordinator; and Sima Sami Bahous, Executive Director of the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN-Women), will brief the Security Council on the situation in Afghanistan.
In addition to the 15 Council members, delegates representing Afghanistan, India, Iran and Qatar will participate.
The delivery of humanitarian assistance in Afghanistan will be one aspect of the briefing, in accordance with Council resolution 2615 (2021).
For its discussion, the Council will have before it the Secretary-General's report on the situation in Afghanistan and its implications for international peace and security (document S/2025/372 ). UNAMA's mandate expires on 17 March 2026.
