The Security Council will convene this morning to discuss the situation in Central Africa.
The 15-nation organ will be briefed by Abdou Abarry, Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Central Africa and Head of the United Nations Regional Office for Central Africa, as well as Gilberto da Piedade Veríssimo, President of the Commission of the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS).
Council members will have before them the Secretary-General's report on the situation in Central Africa and the activities of the UN regional office for the region (document S/2025/342 ).
That report provides an assessment of the major political and security trends in Central Africa since the last such report was issued on 29 November 2024, as well as an update on the situation in the Lake Chad Basin pursuant to resolution 2349 (2017).
