Update 1: Search and rescue, Bogie (Whitsunday)

(New information in bold)

Police are coordinating a search and rescue effort after a ute was washed off a road in Bogie (Whitsundays)

Around 8am, police received a call from the mother of one of the ute's occupants to say water was rising around the ute on Tondara Road, around fifteen kilometres from the Bruce Highway.

It appears the ute – with five people inside – was then swept off the road.

Initial information indicates that they managed to get out of the ute but are now stranded and may be making their way to the coastline.

A helicopter was dispatched from Townsville a short time ago to assist with the search and rescue effort, as police cannot reach the site by road due to flooding.

The stranded men had been in the area on a pig hunt last night and Tondara Road is the only road in and out of the area, and is now flooded.
