Update 4 – Kuraby homicide investigation

Detectives investigating the October 2017 murder of Abdul Mohammed at Kuraby have charged a man this morning.

It will be alleged the 35-year-old was attacked when he went outside of his St George Street home around 12.30am on Wednesday October 25, 2017, to check on a power outage.

Mr Mohammed was located deceased in the front yard a short time later having sustained a number of stab wounds.

Since the initial investigation, detectives from Acacia Ridge Criminal Investigation Branch and State Crime Command Homicide Investigation Unit have sought to identify those responsible for his murder.

A secondary crime scene was established at an address on Didcot Street in Kuraby last year with forensic officers carrying out a thorough examination of the dwelling and surrounds.

A 21-year-old Kuraby man was arrested this morning and has since been charged with one count of murder.

He is expected to appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court today.

In April last year, a $250,000 reward was announced for information which leads to the apprehension and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the death of Mr Mohammed.

An appropriate indemnity from prosecution will also be recommended for any accomplice, not being the person who actually committed the crime, who first gives such information.
