Update 6: Operation Uniform Kalahari at Cairns

Child Protection and Investigation Unit (CPIU) detectives established Operation Uniform Kalahari to extensively investigate the alleged grooming and exploitation of vulnerable young people in the Cairns area since January 2022.

On Thursday June 22, a 31-year-old Manunda woman was charged with five counts of supplying dangerous drugs to a minor and one count each of wounding and possess utensils.

Police bail was refused, and she is scheduled to re-appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on August 8.

To date, detectives have charged 10 men and two women with a total of 263 charges as part of Operation Uniform Kalahari with 52 child victims bravely coming forward.

It will be alleged the youths, were groomed, indecently assaulted, and supplied with dangerous drugs including methylamphetamine and cannabis.

Police and other support services are committed to providing assistance to young people involved and their families.
