Update – Bus driver assaulted in Benowa, QLD

Police have charged a boy following investigations into the assault of a bus driver in Benowa last night, Queensland Police say.

Around 11pm, a boy boarded the bus at Nerang which was travelling towards Surfers Paradise.

It will be alleged once on board, the boy sat at the back of the bus and later began yelling at the 36-year-old driver, punched him to the face and attempted to steal the cash tin.

It will further be alleged he alighted from the bus at the intersection of Ross Street and Ashmore Road however, then boarded the bus again and attempted to assault the driver once more.

Another passenger assisted the driver to remove the boy from the bus as police arrived.

A 16-year-old boy has been charged with attempted robbery with violence and will be dealt with under the provisions of the Youth Justice Act.
