On Saturday, 26th September a large fire occurred at the former Austral Theatre located at 200 Johnston Street in Collingwood.
As a result of this, Johnston Street was closed until 6.00pm on Tuesday.
On Monday, Council's municipal building surveyor inspected the site with the owner, their structural engineer and their make-safe builder.
It was determined that part of the building has been severely compromised, but due to the significant nature of the damage, further inspections will need to take place once the debris is entirely removed.
Contractors are still clearing debris at the rear of the building and making the property and surrounding areas safe.
Works will continue with some continued disruption to the surrounding streets.
