With numerous projects underway in Hawks Nest and Tea Gardens, MidCoast Council has provided an update to the community this week.
"Recently completed, a $1 million overhaul of the Hawks Nest Surf Club saw the clubhouse almost completely gutted and new state of the art facilities provided for the lifesaving club," said Council's Manager Community Spaces, Recreation and Trades, Dan Aldridge.
Meanwhile, work will begin in July to construct a new amenities block in Providence Park next to the existing aged toilet facilities.
"The old amenities block will remain open and accessible during the construction phase, and then will be demolished once the new block is operational," added Dan Aldridge.
"A development application has now been lodged by our contractor for the upgrade to the Hawks Nest Community Hall, and construction will commence once the approvals process has been completed."
The MidCoast-wide Pedestrian Access Mobility Plan and Bike Plan has been adopted unanimously by Councillors and will now form the basis of future funding opportunities from within Council, as well as the State and Federal Governments.
The plan provides a series of strategies to improve facilities for walking and cycling across the MidCoast Council region, and thanks to consultation with community members, has been tailored specifically for Tea Gardens and Hawks Nest.
"We've also been successful in receiving $700,000 from the NSW Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Fund for specific improvements to the Tea Gardens Pool," said Dan Aldridge.
"The grant specifies that the funding allocation is $300,000 to upgrade the entrance to the site and provide accessible paths and buildings and $400,000 for an accessibility ramp into the pool, with an entrance and exit pod built as an extension to the existing pool."
Designs are being prepared and then tenders will be called, with work expected to begin later this year.
