Parkes and Peak Hill Residential properties will continue to receive their normal waste collection service from JR Richards, noting that this week is the red and green bin collection.
Due to the current lockdown and increased cases in the community, Parkes and Peak Hill Waste Facilities will be closed to the general public, but open for receival of commercial construction and demolition waste, health and medical, aged care, hotel, and other commercial and industrial waste at normal operating hours.
The Environmental Protection Authority and NSW Health issued clarification regarding tip access.
For regional residents who don't have a council bin collection, the EPA has advocated for regional NSW residents, and we have received clarification from NSW Health that taking waste to a landfill would be a "reasonable excuse" for a person to leave their home in regional NSW.
In light of the clarification, those outside the roadside pickup areas in the 2870 and 2869 postcodes, appointments can be made through the Planning & Environment Department on 6861 2373 to deliver your waste to the tip.
It is noted that the clarification is limited and consequently, the tips will remain closed for those residents that receive a roadside pick-up service.
When booking please provide your name, address, nominated vehicle registration and contact phone number. A time will be allocated for you to attend the Parkes tip this week on Thursday, Friday, Saturday or Sunday or Peak Hill tip on Thursday or Sunday at half hourly intervals to allow non-contact drop off and exit. There will be a requirement for prompt adherence to your allocated time - or entry cannot be permitted. Cash will not be accepted.
Council is reviewing its procedures to plan for reopening to the public and further advice will be provided when determined.
