Update: Serious Bodily Harm Investigation Underway in Gympie

A 41-year-old man who suffered serious head injuries following an alleged assault at Gympie has died this morning in hospital.

Around 2am yesterday morning November 19, members of the public rendered first aid to the man after it is alleged he was punched and fell hitting his head on the roadway.

It is alleged the man continued to be assaulted while he was on the ground.

The 41-year-old man from Lagoon Pocket was flown to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a critical condition but has today passed away from his injuries.

Two men aged 24 and 21, both from Gympie, have already been charged by police with grievous bodily harm.

They are both due to appear in the Gympie Magistrates Court today, November 20.

Further investigations will now commence following the man's death.

Police are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the assault, or who may have dash-cam or CCTV footage from Mary Street or Horseshoe bend, to contact them.

Investigations are continuing.
