The search for missing woman Rikki Mitchell has concluded after a property-holder returned her to the command post this morning.
Just before 10am rescuers saw an ATV approach the site driven by a local landholder with Rikki doubled on the back.
The man found Rikki on his property, nearby the Flinders Highway after she had commandeered the ATV from another property.
The man was aware of the search party and drove Rikki on the ATV to the command post.
Townsville Detective Inspector Jason Shepherd praised Rikki, the landholder and the search party for the miraculous result.
'Hopes were fading for Rikki's safe return and her survival is nothing short of remarkable. She is safe and well after receiving treatment from paramedics for exposure and scratches and will be recovering in hospital,' Detective Inspector Shepherd said.
'Conditions have ranged from extreme heat to quite cool dips - and for her to be missing seven days in the bus,h it's a fantastic outcome considering the elements and the risk from wildlife, including snakes.
'I understand she only had about a litre of water, was wearing a t-shirt, shorts and thongs and had no phone or food supplies. Obviously with the timeframe she's been missing she's likely to have become quite disoriented, but traversed a considerable distance-at times this morning following the sound of the nearby Flinders Highway to raise the alarm.
'I'm unable to quantify the distance, but her perseverance and grit in not giving up is a credit to her.
'I want to thank the search party of police, locals and our wonderful volunteers from the State Emergency Service who never gave up hope for Rikki's safe return.
'The media, who have been integral with highlighting the search, are thanked for their help.
'Rikki has requested privacy as she reunites with her loved ones.'
