Updated Cross Border Travel-Associated Direction 8 July 2021, South Australia

Updates have been made to the Cross Border Travel-Associated Direction in South Australia.

The Cross Border Travel-Associated No 26 Direction came into effect at 10.45am on Thursday 8 July 2021

The following restrictions apply in relation to restrictions for people travelling from Western Australia, Northern Territory and Queensland. The following changes apply:

Western Australia and Northern Territory

  • People in South Australia before or after 10.45am 08/07/21- People who were in Western Australia or Northern Territory prior to 10.45am on Thursday 8 July and who were subject to quarantine restrictions are released from quarantine but must adhere to Level 3 restrictions for the remainder of 14 days from their arrival. People who arrived after 10.45am Thursday 8 July are also subject to Level 3 restrictions.

    Note- this does not apply to people who have been at an exposure site. These people must remain in quarantine for 14 days as directed.

  • Level 3 restrictions are:
    • COVID-19 test on day 1, 5 and 13. Self-quarantine until receiving the first negative COVID-19 test result.
    • No entry into a high risk setting for 14 days after arrival into South Australia.
    • No entry into an event where there is a COVID Management Plan in place or more than 1000 people.
  • Designated Exposure Site Arrivals prior to 10.45am 08/07/21- People who have been at a designated exposure site in Western Australia or Northern Territory as displayed on the government websites below and who arrive in South Australia prior to 10.45am Thursday 8 July 2021 are subject to Level 4 Restrictions which are:
    • Self-quarantine for 14 days.
    • COVID-19 test on day 1, 5 and 13.
    • Must wear a masking when coming in contact with members of the public.
  • Designated Exposure Site Arrivals after 10.45am 08/07/21- People who have been at a designated exposure site in Western Australia or Northern Territory as displayed on the government websites below and who arrive in South Australia after 10.45am Thursday 8 July 2021 are subject to Level 3 Restrictions as above.

Queensland

The following restrictions apply to people from 10.45am Thursday 8 July 2021:

  • Greater Brisbane Arrivals- People arriving from Brisbane, Moreton Bay, Sunshine Coast, Shire of Noosa, Gold Coast, Logan, Ipswich, Redland, Lockyer Valley, Scenic Rim and Summerset are deemed as Greater Brisbane Arrivals and are not permitted to enter South Australia and are under Level 6 restrictions.
  • Townsville and Big Red Bash Arrivals- People arriving after the commencement of the direction from Townsville or the Simpson Desert in the State of Queensland at which the Big Red Bash 2021 was held are subject to Level 3 restrictions which are:
  • COVID-19 test on day 1, 5 and 13. Self-quarantine until receiving the first negative COVID-19 test result.
  • No entry into a high risk setting for 14 days after arrival into South Australia.
  • No entry into an event where there is a COVID Management Plan in place or more than 1000 people.

Note- People who have been in a Townsville exposure site and enter South Australia prior to 10.45am 08/07/2021 are subject to Level 4 restrictions. The Designated government website provides details of the exposure site:

  • The remaining areas of Queensland- People who have been in any other area of Queensland are not subject to any restrictions upon entry into South Australia. Essential travellers or permitted arrivals who arrived prior to the commencement of the Direction are now subject to Level 3 provisions unless they have been in Greater Brisbane, Townsville/Magnetic Island exposure sites.

Transiting throughA person is permitted to transit through the restricted areas to get to the airport or their destination provided: they travel the most direct and practical route; wear a face mask the entire time they are in the airport or come in contact with people; and do not leave the airport before boarding their onward flight. This includes those people arriving on another flight, but cannot leave the airport between flights. People will be subject to the level restrictions imposed on their state origin upon entry.

Restrictions in relation to New South Wales, Australian Capital Territory and Victoria are still in place and have not changed.

  • People are permitted to transit through New South Wales and Australian Capital Territory without restriction provided they do not stop other than for fuel, rest or in the case of an emergency and they wear a mask when in contact with members of the community. This includes transiting through the airport, but cannot leave the airport between flights.
  • South Australian residents are permitted to enter the New South Wales Cross Border Corridor only (100km into New South Wales) and return to South Australia without restrictions. Should a SA resident travel beyond the NSW Cross Border Corridor, they are subject to restrictions upon return.

Cross Border Travel Registration Form

  • All travellers coming to South Australia must first complete a Cross Border Travel Registration, irrespective of where they are travelling from.
  • Travellers must complete a separate Cross Border Travel Registration for each person in the travelling party including all children.
  • The South Australia Police are experiencing a large volume of Cross Border Traveller Registration. To prevent impost upon your travel arrangements please make your application at least 7 days before you travel.
  • If you are travelling from a restricted zone, your application should relate to one of the Essential Traveller Categories or as a Permitted Arrival (returning SA resident, those genuinely relocating, or people escaping from Domestic Violence (including a person providing support).
  • If you choose to travel before you receive your Cross Border Travel approval, you must bring a copy of your Essential Traveller number and documentation supporting your applications. Please be aware that if you choose to travel before your Cross Border Travel has been approved, be aware that you may not be granted entry to South Australia.
