Updates to COVID-19 Direction for 17 March 2021, South Australia

Updates have been made to the Supervised Quarantine Direction in South Australia. The changes only affect those people who are working at a medi-hotel site or designated Red Zone at an airport.

Supervised Quarantine No 6

The Emergency Management (Emergency Management (Supervised Quarantine No 5) (COVID-19) Direction 2021 has been revoked and replaced by the Emergency Management (Supervised Quarantine No 6) (COVID-19) Direction 2021. This Direction came into effect at 2.05 pm Wednesday 17 March 2021.

The changes are:

  • A person who works at a medi-hotel site or designated Red Zone at an airport is required to submit to daily saliva testing except on the days when they undertake a nasal swab COVID-19 test.
  • A person who works at a medi-hotel or designated Red Zone at an airport is required to submit to a nasal swab COVID-19 test at least once every 8 days.
  • When a person finishes their period of work at either the medi-hotel or designated red zone at an airport and their break is for more than 4 calendar days they must receive additional tests on:
    • The last day they are working at the site (day 1 test);
    • Three days after last working at the site (day 4 test);
    • Six days after the day 4 test (day 10 test); and
    • If the person is resuming work a medi-hotel or designated Red Zone fifteen days after last being at one of these sites they must receive a COVID-19 nasal swab test fifteen days after last working at the site (day 14 test).

If a person returns to work at a medi-hotel or designated red zone anytime during this testing schedule they are required to return to daily saliva tests and 8 day nasal swab tests.

* An example of this is- A person finishes work at a medi-hotel or airport site on 13 March 2021 and are not returning until 29 March 2021. Given that this is more than 4 calendar days they will then need to get a COVID-19 nasal swab test on 13 March (day 1 test), 16 March (day 4 test), 22 March(day 10 test) and 26 March (day 14 test).
