Updates to COVID-19 Directions 2 February 2021

COVID-19 Directions have been updated in South Australia in relation to the situation in Western Australia.

Updates have been made to the Cross Border Travel and Residential Aged Care Directions. These updates provide restrictions for people travelling from Western Australia.

Cross Border Travel Direction No 33 & Modification Quarantine of Former Western Australian Arrivals

The Cross Border No 33 Direction came into effect at 2pm on Tuesday 2 February 2021. The Modification Quarantine of Former Western Australian Arrivals Direction came into effect at 2.03pm on Tuesday 2 February 2021.

The changes are as follow:

Entry from Western Australia

  • The whole of Western Australia is no longer a Prohibited Location. However, the current lockdown areas of Perth, Peel and South West Regions in Western Australia are still classified as a Prohibited Zone.
  • This means people who have been in a Restricted Location (Perth, Peel and South West Regions) are not permitted to enter South Australia. Exemptions do apply for people genuinely relocating to South Australia, approved Essential Travellers, returning South Australian residents and people escaping domestic violence situations however, travellers must have an approved Cross Border Travel Application.
  • People wishing to enter South Australia from Western Australia are permitted to do so providing that they have not been in a Restricted Location and must receive a COVID-19 test within 24 hours from arrival in South Australia and self-quarantine until they receive a negative test result. They must get tested again on day 5 and day 12.
  • People are permitted to transit through Perth Airport providing they have been in a Low Community Transmission Zone (ACT, WA-other than a Prohibited Zone, NSW-other than a Restricted Location, NT, QLD, TAS & VIC) for 14 days, have only been in the airport for 2 hours or less and have worn a face mask for the entirety of the time they are in transit including during the flight.
  • People can travel through a Prohibited Zone from another area of Western Australia providing they did not stop (unless stopping in an emergency, for respite or for essential services such as fuel) and travelled via the most direct and practicable route.

People Currently in South Australia having Travelled from Western Australia

  • People who have travelled from Western Australia (including those who have transited through the airport if they were only there for 2 hours or less) since 26 January 2021 and who have not been in a Restricted Location (Perth, Peel and South West Regions) are able to immediately leave quarantine if they have received a negative COVID-19 test result. They complete the remaining of their COVID-19 tests on days 5 and 12.
  • People who have been at the Sheraton Four Points Hotel in Western Australia or are a close contact or a person at the hotel are still required to follow the restrictions under the old Directions. These means, people who have already entered South Australia having been physically present on the site or a close contact of a person present at the site of the Sheraton Four Points Hotel, 707 Wellington Street Perth, Western Australia 12.01am 24 January and 10.15pm on Sunday 31 January must contact SA Health immediately and quarantine (at a place determined by an authorised officer) for 14 days starting 10.15pm on Sunday 31 January, receiving COVID-19 tests on days 1, 5 & 12.
  • People who are in South Australia having been in a Restricted Location (Perth, Peel and South West Regions) any time since 26 January must continue to self-quarantine and complete COVID-19 tests on days 1, 5 and 12.

Residential Aged Care Facilities Direction No 26

The Residential Aged Care Facilities No 26 Direction came into effect at 2.04pm on Tuesday 2 February 2021.

The only change to the Residential Aged Care Facilities Direction is:

  • People from the Prohibited Zones in Western Australia (Perth, Peel and south West Regions) are not permitted to enter an aged care facility (unless they have an exemption and prior approval from the facility and SA Health as a pre-approved essential traveller).
  • People who have been in any other area of Western Australia may only enter an RACF having isolated and received a negative test result.
  • A person who has entered SA and completed 14 days of quarantine is free to move around South Australia and also enter a Residential Aged Care Facility.

The Emergency Management (Cross Border Travel No 31) (COVID-19) Direction 2021 has been revoked and replaced by the Emergency Management (Cross Border Travel No 32)(COVID-19) Direction 2021. The Emergency Management (Residential Aged Care Facilities No 24) (COVID-19) Direction 2021 has been revoked and replaced by the Emergency Management (Residential Aged Care Facilities No 25) (COVID-19) Direction 2021.
