The Emergency Management (Non-Essential Business and Other Activities No 4) (COVID-19) Direction 2020 will be revoked and replaced by the Emergency Management (Non-Essential Business and Other Activities No 5) (COVID-19) Direction 2020. This new Direction comes into effect at 12:00 am on Monday 11 May 2020.
The new direction now introduces a number of changes to the restrictions to business and other activities.
The main changes relate to the following:
Outdoor sporting and recreational venues now permitted to conduct activities and members of the public now permitted to participate providing:
- 10 or less participating
- 1 caregiver may remain per participant
- Activity is non-contact
- Multiple groups of 10 can participate e.g. on a sporting ground so long as density requirements and appropriate distancing are adhered to
Recreational swimming is now permitted providing:
- 10 or less participating
- 1 caregiver may remain per participant
- 1 swimmer per lane
- Change and shower facilities not permitted to be used but toilets can
Restaurants and cafés (holders of a restaurant and catering licence) can open and provide seated meals providing:
- Patrons are seated outdoors
- No more than 10 patrons
- Density and social distancing requirements are adhered to
- Alcohol must not be consumed on the premises
Funerals - permitted attendance increased to 30 outdoors and 20 indoors.
Weddings - permitted attendance increased to 10.
As a general rule, people involved in the provision of a service or activity relevant to the new exemptions are not to be counted in the gathering numbers. This includes boot camp instructors, priests, celebrants, café and restaurant workers, coaches, etc.
