Upgraded Canterbury Sports Pavilion Reopens

The Canterbury community came together on Saturday 29 November 2025 to celebrate the newly upgraded Canterbury Sports Ground pavilion.

Mayor Wes Gault and Deputy Mayor and Maling Ward Councillor Shima Ibuki joined Mr John Berger MLC, Member for Southern Metropolitan Region to unveil the plaque and officially open the pavilion. Representatives from the Canterbury Cricket Club, Canterbury Football Club, Canterbury Junior Football Club and local residents also attended.

The pavilion has been completely renewed and transformed into a more inclusive, accessible and functional community facility. A major highlight of the upgrade is the improved change room facilities for women and girls to support female participation in sport.

The project cost over $4.75 million, with a $1.25 million contribution from the Victorian Government.

This project is part of our wider efforts to upgrade pavilions right across Boroondara to support community sport. Work on the pavilions at Frog Hollow Reserve and Highfield Park in Camberwell is nearing completion, and construction on the Greythorn Park pavilion will begin in early 2026.
