Upgraded Harley Hammond Netball Courts Construction Begins

Works will soon begin on the Harley Hammond Reserve Netball Courts and Lighting Upgrade, marking the start of a project that will transform the reserve into a modern sporting and recreation hub for the Broadford community.

The upgrade, which begins Monday 29 September, will deliver two state-of-the-art netball courts with competition compliant lighting, supporting Broadford's growing netball community, including the Broadford Football Netball Club, Broadford Junior Football Netball Club, and Broadford Netball Club. The project will provide safe, high-quality facilities that cater to players of all ages and skill levels.

During construction, there will be partial closures of footpaths next to the courts on Powlett Street and Gavan Street. Pedestrians are encouraged to follow all directional signage and use alternate routes where indicated to ensure safety.

A new play space will also be constructed adjacent to the netball courts early next year through a separate procurement process, offering expanded recreational opportunities for local families.

All works are expected to be completed by the end of April 2026, with construction scheduled to minimise disruption to existing netball activities.

The project is funded through $967,250 from the Australian Government's Play Our Way Program, with Council contributing an additional $200,000.

Mitchell Shire Mayor John Dougall said this project is an exciting step forward for the Broadford community.

"The upgraded courts and new play space will provide fantastic opportunities for sport and recreation for residents of all ages," he said.

"We know these improvements will be enjoyed by generations of netball players and families, and we thank the Australian Government for their support in making this project possible."
