Don Hardy Reserve in Davoren Park now features a range of new play equipment, complete with an Australian native animal theme and incorporating its natural settings into play time.
Complementing these are a sheltered picnic area and irrigated turf, making it the ideal destination for families and community gatherings.
The development of this park was guided by community input, ensuring the space meets the needs and desires of local residents.
These projects are part of the City of Playford's initiative to enhance its public spaces, as part of its focus to maintain quality open spaces for residents.
Mayor Glenn Docherty said it was wonderful to see this much-loved park transformed and revitalised for the new generation of Davoren Park residents.
"By upgrading our long-serving parks we're giving the local community an improved recreational space close to home," said the Mayor.
Tina and Michael Hardy know Don Hardy Reserve very well - the park was named in honour of their father and grandfather, respectfully.
"Don would be overjoyed that the park has been upgraded and honoured that his 43 years of community service are still recognised by the people who visit," said Tina.
"The reserve's new design plays a major role in the area's transformation. Families and their children can now play and enjoy the improved, family-friendly reserve - exactly what my grandfather Don always wanted for the area," said Michael.
Don passed away in 2009, but many members of the Hardy family still call Playford home, including his wife, Dorothy.
A Pop-up Party was held afterschool on 15 October, with residents invited to come along and celebrate their new space.
Free activities and treats like donuts, fresh fruit, hot and cold drinks, were provided as part of the neighbourhood parties.
"It's such a great result to see this park being used and enjoyed by the local community," said the Mayor.
"This park was ready for a refresh after serving our community for many decades. With new families moving into the area, upgrading our outdoor spaces has never been more important."
These upgrades follow the recent transformation of local parks Pete Smith Reserve, Davoren Park, as well as Barrow Crescent Reserve, Elizabeth Vale and Virgo Street Reserve, Elizabeth South.
Gloaming Reserve in Hillbank is also reopening after a major upgrade, with a Pop-up Party scheduled to be held on Tuesday 21 October, 3:30 PM to 5:30 PM.
