Bega Valley Shire Council is upgrading the pavilion at George Brown Oval in Eden to deliver modern, accessible and inclusive facilities for players, officials and the wider community.
Works will commence within the next two weeks and are expected to be completed by the end of March 2026, weather permitting.
Council's Manager Parks, Aquatics and Recreation, John Grady said the project will see big improvements to the outdated pavilion changerooms and see them become a welcoming and functional space for everyone who uses them.
"The existing changerooms are ageing and no longer meet modern accessibility or inclusion standards," Mr Grady said.
"The upgrade will replace them with adaptable changerooms that can be configured as separate male and female spaces when needed and used flexibly by players and volunteers.
"The project will also deliver significant upgrades to the roof structure, including a covered spectator viewing area, as well as improved accessible amenities and refurbished toilet facilities."
The project was initiated through a Community Project Proposal submitted in 2022, which sought Council's support to reconfigure the changerooms and create female-friendly facilities.
Following successful funding application through state and federal programs, Council worked closely with the Eden Tigers Rugby League Committee to refine the project scope and designs.
Mayor Russell Fitzpatrick said with women's rugby league and touch football growing each year, providing comfortable facilities for female players will help boost participation, increase use of the facilities and promote a greater sense of safety and belonging for female members of the club and visiting teams.
"These improvements will give the community a fit-for-purpose facility that's ready to serve a new generation of players and supporters," Mayor Fitzpatrick said.
The pavilion will be closed to the public during construction, though access to the oval will remain open.
This project is jointly funded by the Australian Government's Investing in Our Communities program, the NSW Government's Clubgrants program and Bega Valley Shire Council.
