An Urraween couple is celebrating their $546,000 Gold Lotto win by gleefully saying goodbye to garden chores, as they look forward to hiring a personal gardener every month.
The Hervey Bay residents held one of the 12 division one winning entries nationally in Saturday Gold Lotto on Saturday 14 June 2025. Each division one winning entry pocketed $546,068.41.
So far in 2025, the Wide Bay-Burnett region has celebrated seven major lottery wins, totalling over $19.17 million in prize money.
The winning entry was unregistered, which means we had to wait for the winner to check their ticket and come forward to claim the prize.
"Thank you! Thank you! I'm half asleep right now," the winning man shared when we confirmed the windfall.
"We've never won anything in our entire lives. We're in a lot of shock!
"We got home from the newsagency and couldn't stop thinking about the win. We normally go to bed around 10pm but our minds were everywhere. I didn't end up going to sleep until 1.30am!
"It was a very sleepless night thinking about the win. We're just so excited.
"Hopefully we can have a longer sleep tonight!"
When asked how they plan to enjoy their winnings, the retired duo shared they'd thought about relocating, but the prize money means they can now happily stay in the home they cherish.
"We're retired and were thinking of moving homes, but this prize is the second bite of the cherry and means we can stay put!" he shared.
"We don't have to move, and we can now complete some maintenance around the house.
"We'll definitely be hiring a gardener once a month, which will be a huge relief!"
The division one winning entry was purchased at Nextra Fraser Gateway Newsagency, Shop 22-23 Stockland Shopping Centre, 6 Central Avenue, Urraween.
Nextra Fraser Gateway Newsagency manager Kylie Bromhead said she was so excited to hear her outlet had sold another division one winning entry.
"I was so stoked! I had to rush back to the shop early in the morning to prepare celebration materials and share the news with the community," she said.
"Our customers may notice our exciting news in-store or on our social media pages. Hopefully, more customers will get their tickets from the luckiest store in the area!
"The last time we sold a division one winning entry was in August 2024 and we're so excited to have sold another one. This is our fifth major lottery prize in less than two years.
"Congratulations to the winning man and we wish him all the very best with his prize!"
