On behalf of the people of the United States, I congratulate the people of Uruguay on the 198th anniversary of your independence.
The strong partnership between Uruguay and the United States is built on our shared values and vision for the world-one grounded in liberty, democracy, and individual rights. We are working side by side to make that vision a reality-including by protecting human rights and promoting inclusive economic growth across the Americas. We are also working together to tackle important challenges, like the climate crisis and regional security. We welcome Uruguay's leadership in the hemisphere, multilateral fora, and across the world, and are proud to stand with Uruguay to promote peace and defend our common democratic values.
In the year ahead, I look forward to further strengthening our partnership-and friendship-as we continue to forge a more free, secure, and prosperous future for our citizens and for people around the world.
