U.S. and Cyprus to Hold 2023 Defense and Security Dialogue

Principal Director for Europe and NATO Policy Andrew L. Winternitz hosted the 2023 U.S.-Republic of Cyprus Defense and Security Cooperation Dialogue on June 1, which was the second meeting that institutionalized this framework. The Cypriot delegation was led by Brigadier General Charis Georgiou, head of the Republic of Cyprus Minister of Defense's military staff.

During the dialogue, the delegations reviewed progress on security and defense cooperation to date, noting in particular the acceptance of the Republic of Cyprus into the State Partnership Program and IMET. Both sides discussed ways to further cooperate on shared interests and regional stability and security. The delegations also had the opportunity to discuss ways to further enhance bilateral defense cooperation and military ties.
