UTA recognized by Insight Into Diversity

The University of Texas at Arlington has received the 2023 Higher Education Excellence in Diversity (HEED) Award from INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine, the oldest and largest diversity-focused publication in higher education.

As a recipient of the annual HEED Award—a national honor recognizing U.S. colleges and universities that demonstrate an outstanding commitment to diversity and inclusion—UTA will be featured, along with 107 other recipients, in the November/December 2023 issue of INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine. This marks the third time UTA has received the HEED Award.

"UTA is proud to be one of the nation's most diverse institutions of higher education," said Jewel Washington, UTA's vice president for Talent, Culture and Inclusion. "We are honored to be awarded the 2023 HEED Award as it is recognition of UTA's culture of diversity and our reputation for being a welcoming campus for all students, faculty and staff."

Lenore Pearlstein, publisher of INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine, said universities undergo a comprehensive application related to recruitment and retention of students and employees and to leadership support for diversity throughout the campus.

"We take a detailed approach to reviewing each application in deciding who will be named a HEED Award recipient," Pearlstein said. "Our standards are high, and we look for institutions where diversity and inclusion are woven into the work being done every day across their campus."
