Dementia Australia congratulates Dementia Advocate Val Fell OAM for her inclusion in the Queen's Birthday Honours, receiving the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in the General Division.

Mrs Fell has been honoured for her service to people impacted by dementia.

Dementia Australia Chief Operating Officer Anthony Boffa said this was a well-deserved honour for Mrs Fell, who has been a long-time supporter of Dementia Australia.

"At 92, Val is an outstanding Dementia Advocate whose voluntary advocacy work has made a profound difference to the lives of Australians living with dementia, their families and carers," Mr Boffa said.

"Val first joined the former Alzheimer's Association of New South Wales in 2006, which later merged with other state and territory associations to become Dementia Australia in 2017.

"She is a member of the Kiama Dementia Alliance and the organiser of the annual Illawarra Dementia Forum in Wollongong.

"Earlier this year Val was appointed to the new Council of Elders, a recommendation from the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety, which engages widely on many aspects of aged care from the perspective of the quality and safety of care and the rights and dignity of older people.

"As well, she regularly speaks publicly about dementia in the media and is well-known in her community and beyond for her tireless advocacy work.

"We congratulate Val and send our heartfelt thanks for all of the incredible work that she does to improve the lives of people living with dementia, their families and carers."
