Vanderbilt Wins SACSCOC Torch Award for Student Success

Vanderbilt University

Vanderbilt was recently honored by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges inaugural Torch Awards, a new recognition that celebrates member institutions for their leadership in affordability, student success and post-college outcomes. Vanderbilt was the only Level VI institution-universities that offer four or more distinct doctoral degree programs-to receive the award in the student support and completion category.

The Torch Award highlights Vanderbilt's commitment to enhancing student support, improving progression, and promoting long-term success for its students. This recognition reinforces the university's unwavering commitment to students' academic, professional and personal growth through collaborative partnerships, transformative learning experiences and an accessible and holistic network of resources.

"This recognition affirms the intentional, student-centered work happening across Vanderbilt every day," said Duane Watson, vice provost for faculty affairs. "Our faculty and staff are deeply committed to removing barriers, strengthening support structures and ensuring that every student has the resources and guidance they need to thrive from enrollment through graduation and beyond."

SACSCOC is the regional accrediting body for degree-granting higher education institutions in the Southern states. The commission evaluates member institutions for educational quality and effectiveness and ensures compliance with its Principles of Accreditation, which apply to all applicant, candidate and accredited colleges, regardless of type or mission.
