Northern Territory Police have seized a vehicle following an alleged hooning incident in Alice Springs over the weekend.
Southern Traffic Operations members were conducting patrols along the Stuart Highway in Braitling when they observed an orange Ford Falcon exit Power Street and turn right onto the highway.
It is alleged the driver cut off another vehicle before accelerating heavily and losing traction, creating a risk to other road users.
Police intercepted the vehicle subsequently seized it under Northern Territory anti-hooning legislation.
Senior Sergeant Dev Kanyilmaz said police were pleased with the behaviour of the vast majority of motorists and attendees throughout Red CentreNATS but urged drivers not to ruin a good thing by taking dangerous driving onto public roads.
"Red CentreNATS is a fantastic event for Alice Springs and the overwhelming majority of people attended, enjoyed themselves and did the right thing.
"There are controlled environments where people can enjoy their vehicles and everything that comes with an event like Red CentreNATS. Public roads are not one of them.
"Driving in a manner that puts other motorists at risk is unacceptable. What might seem like a few seconds of fun behind the wheel can very quickly result in a serious crash.
"Motorists are reminded that hooning-related offences can carry significant consequences, including having your vehicle seized on the spot."
