Police are appealing for information and sharing crime prevention strategies following several vehicle thefts across the Brisbane region.
Between 2am to 3.30am on 4 November unknown offenders stole four Toyota LandCruiser's from a business on Ipswich Road, Marooka.
One vehicle was subsequently located abandoned on Sherbrooke Road in Willawong.
Investigations are ongoing to locate the remaining stolen vehicles, a 2013 silver LandCruiser with Queensland (QLD) registration (rego) 903TIX, a 2017 white LandCruiser with QLD rego 326IE3 and 2017 Grey LandCruiser with QLD rego S1MTEC.
Between 20 October and 12 November, Brisbane police have received 47 reports of Toyota LandCruisers and RAV4s being stolen from private residences or businesses.
Investigations are ongoing to determine if any of these thefts are linked.
Police are actively investigating these vehicle thefts and are sharing important crime prevention strategies to help prevent and deter offenders from stealing vehicles.
Top crime prevention strategies to protect your vehicle:
- If you have off street parking, use it. If possible, park behind locked gates or in a locked garage. Parking on the street greatly increases the risk of theft.
- If you have security cameras, try to park your vehicle within the camera vision. CCTV cameras are a deterrent for many opportunistic thieves.
- Consider installing a steering wheel lock, pedal box or lock, car alarm or immobiliser
- Consider installing a GPS tracking device with live monitoring
- Always keep your vehicle locked and secured - even if you are only leaving it for a moment.
- Keep the keys to your vehicle in a hidden location - not on the kitchen bench or a key rack.
- Remove all valuables from the vehicle
- If you notice something suspicious report it to police immediately.
