Man arrested over hammering vehicles and shop windows in Ermington

A man has been arrested after damaging multiple vehicles and shops in Sydney's west today.

About 6am (Saturday 25 April 2020), police were called to Bartlett Street, Ermington, after reports a man, armed with a hammer and a piece of wood, was smashing vehicles and shop windows.

Officers from Cumberland Police Area Command attended and spoke with a man who refused to surrender his weapons. OC spray was deployed, and the 61-year-old was arrested.

Police estimate more than 20 vehicles and five shop windows were smashed, causing in excess of $100,000 damage.

The man has been taken to Westmead Hospital for assessment.
