Central Goldfields Shire Council will continue to operate a VicRoads agency after reaching an agreement with VicRoads to retain the full suite of services for the Maryborough community and surrounding areas.
Mayor Grace La Vella said it was a positive outcome for the community.
"It was a hard road to get to this point, but I'm delighted we'll be able to drive forward with confidence," she said.
"Retaining services such as licence testing and vehicle inspections in Maryborough is very important for our residents and businesses."
"I'd like to thank VicRoads for their constructive negotiations and our state political representatives from across the spectrum for their advocacy."
"I'd also like to acknowledge the stakeholders and community members who made their views known."
Council CEO Peter Harriott said the agreement would ensure that the VicRoads service in Maryborough is delivered in a way that is financially responsible and without additional cost to ratepayers.
"Most organisations are looking to reduce costs and live within their means," he said.
"The agreement will be reviewed regularly to ensure the service is operating efficiently and on a sustainable basis."
Mr Harriott said there might be a temporary reduced service in November due to resource constraints.
"We have put staff training and recruitment on hold while there was uncertainty about the VicRoads agency," he said.
"We're now able to address these issues and plan with confidence for the future."
