Rural beekeeper from Kyneton, Claire Moore, has been announced as the National Runner-Up in the 2019 AgriFutures Rural Women's Award at Parliament House in Canberra.
Earlier this year she was awarded the Victorian winner for her project to breed a genetically diverse range of queen bees that are healthy and adaptable in a variety of climates. Having studied beekeeping for the past 12 years, Claire's focus is to address declining bee colony numbers.
The AgriFutures Rural Women's Award acknowledges the significant role women play in agriculture and rural communities. The award is supported in Victoria by the Victorian Government and is sponsored nationally by AgriFutures and Westpac. Each state winner is awarded $10,000 to implement her project and the opportunity to attend the Australian Institute of Directors' Course in Canberra.
