Thirteen of Victoria's emerging agritech founders are visiting the Mornington Peninsula today, touring local farmgates as part of a two-day program delivered in partnership with Farmers2Founders.
Today's farmgate visits include Mornington Peninsula Produce members Red Hill Truffles and Pure Peninsula Honey, together with Mornington Peninsula Wine members Morning Sun Vineyard and Handpicked Wines - highlighting the strong links between the region's wine and food economy.
Since 2018, Farmers2Founders has worked to accelerate the development, commercialisation and adoption of agrifood technology across Australia. The 13 ventures taking part are from its Victorian Pre-Accelerator program, spanning sectors including soils and regenerative inputs, water and climate resilience, digital and farm systems, and horticulture and aquaculture.
Mayor Stephen Baty said the visit was a valuable opportunity to connect the region's producers with the next generation of agricultural innovation.
"Our farmers and producers are at the heart of the Peninsula's food economy, and initiatives like this help build the relationships and ideas that will carry the sector forward," Cr Batty said.
The day will conclude with a networking evening at The Lounge, Flinders Hotel, bringing together producers, regional stakeholders and innovators to share ideas and explore opportunities for collaboration.
The visit coincides with ten years of Mornington Peninsula Produce, the Shire's mark of trusted local provenance for produce grown, bred and raised on the Peninsula.
The Mornington Peninsula's Green Wedge supports a diverse agriculture industry worth $1.3 billion, spanning perennial and annual horticulture, grazing, poultry, cropping and artisan food production.
The event supports the Shire's Food Economy and Agroecology Strategy and its broader commitment to sustainable agriculture in the Green Wedge.
