Victorian Solar Program Receives New Funding

Dept of Climate Change, Energy, Environment & Water

Round 3 of the Victorian Solar for Apartments Program is open for applications.

The joint initiative between the Australian and Victorian governments is providing $32 million to help more Victorian apartment residents access the benefits of rooftop solar.

The program provides funding through body corporates to support the installation of shared rooftop solar systems on eligible apartment buildings and other multi-unit dwellings in Victoria.

Round 3 of the program has 5000 rebates of up to:

  • $2,800 per apartment
  • $140,000 per building.

Many apartment residents face barriers to installing rooftop solar due to them:

  • renting their apartment
  • not being able to afford the initial capital outlay
  • difficulty securing agreement from their owners corporation.

Since opening in February 2024, the program has helped more than 3,200 families living in apartments, units and townhouses. Around half were rented apartments. This helps renters receive the benefits of cheap solar and lower energy bills.

Estimated energy bill savings under the program are up to $500 a year for each apartment.

Round 3 applications are open until 5pm Thursday 30 April 2026, or until all rebates are exhausted.

Visit the Victorian Government website to find out more about the Solar for Apartments Program.

The Solar for Apartments Program is part of the Australian Government's $100 million Community solar banks initiative. The initiative will help up to 25,000 households to install shared solar and clean energy technology.
