Victoria's First Female Mining Warden Appointed

Ms Karen Streckfuss has been appointed Victoria's Mining Warden for a period of three years.

The Mining Warden plays an important role in investigating and attempting to resolve mining related disputes by mediation, conciliation and arbitration. The Mining Warden can also make recommendations to the Minister for Energy and Resources.

Licence holders, landholders and community members can bring mining related disputes to the Mining Warden, including disagreements about land access and boundaries covered by a licence or an application.

Ms Streckfuss brings a wealth of experience to this role. She is an accredited mediator with extensive experience conducting mediations and conciliations, including on sensitive matters. She has previously been on the Mediators List for several courts and tribunals.

She is also a member of the Victorian Bar and has practiced as a barrister for 27 years, with prior experience as a solicitor.
