Victoria's Surgery Waitlist Blowouts Under Labor

Liberal Party Victoria
Victorians continue to pay the price for Labor's mismanagement as new data confirms Victoria's elective surgery waitlist has blown out to more than 64,000.

New figures released today by the Victorian Agency for Health Information (VAHI) for the December 2025 quarter have confirmed:

  • 64,001 patients are waiting for vital surgery, an increase of 3,578 from the previous quarter.
  • Waiting times for general dental care have increased to 13.5 months, up from 11.4 months from the same time last year.
  • On average, category two overdue elective surgery patients are waiting an additional 175 days for treatment, nearly twice as long as the clinically recommended time.
  • More than one in three Code 1 ambulance response times are not meeting the 85 per cent benchmark.

Under Labor, Victoria's health services suffered a more than $1 billion combined deficit in 2023-24. Net debt continues to climb by $1.7 million an hour and is expected to reach a record $192.6 billion by 2028-29.

Shadow Minister for Health, Georgie Crozier, said: "This latest blowout to the surgery waitlist means thousands more Victorians are waiting in pain with their lives on hold."

"Imagine what $15 billion of taxpayer money that lined the pockets of bikies and criminals could have been used for to support our struggling health system and the tens of thousands of Victorians waiting for vital surgery.

"Labor can't manage money, can't manage our health system and Victorians are paying the price."
