Videos showcase ease and benefits of employing culturally diverse jobseekers

The City of Greater Bendigo is launching a series of seven videos called Step Up, to local businesses to showcase the ease and benefits of employing culturally diverse jobseekers. The video series along with other resources will be launched at 12.30pm on Friday, April 5, 2019 in the Bendigo Bank Theatre at the Capital, 50 View Street, Bendigo.

City of Greater Bendigo Community Partnerships Manager Steven Abbott said Greater Bendigo is one of the fastest growing regional centres for cultural diversity in Victoria.

"The City is committed to creating a welcoming and inclusive Greater Bendigo as our new community members come from all walks of life and cultural backgrounds. They are both new customers and enthusiastic jobseekers for many businesses across Greater Bendigo," Mr Abbott said.

"The Step Up video series was developed to assist both employers and culturally diverse job seekers with recruitment, induction and training, management and mentoring and job applications and interviews.

"By producing the videos we are aiming to support and encourage businesses to increase cultural inclusion in their workplaces by adopting practices and protocols that will help them to grow their business.

"The videos also support our culturally diverse community members to understand and navigate employment requirements, expectations and opportunities and raise community awareness about positive cultural inclusion practices in the workplace for local businesses.

"Accompanying resource cards have also been created for businesses and employees on more specific details such as checking visa conditions.

"Guest speaker for the launch is Huss Mustafa OAM, General Manager, Multicultural Community Banking at the Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CBA). Mr Mustafa who is of Turkish-Cypriot heritage, has been with the CBA for over 40 years and is a champion for cultural diversity in workplaces and the community.

"The City is very proud to launch the Step Up video series in collaboration with Loddon Campaspe Multicultural Services and Bendigo Community Health Services. The initiative has been funded by the Victorian Government and is also an action of the City's Cultural Diversity and Inclusion Plan."
